Web Applications Developer

Cambridge
James and James needs a web applications programmer to join our small but growing team.
We're looking for a specific kind of programmer who combines the principled with the practical. Someone who's not looking to become a code-monkey; but someone who could be running the show in a year's time.

What we are offering one perfect candidate, and what we're not:
+ Control and great influence over a real, rapidly growing software project
+ Select and manage new members of your team as we continue to grow
- Not a job with rote-programming or established hierarchies

+ A real-world problem to solve in world-beating fashion
- Not an incumbent technology to maintain

+ A real-world use, where you can test and refine your ideas with our staff;
- Not an abstracted-to-death spec list of boxes to tick

+ Well paid, enough to live very comfortably, with potential for performance bonuses
- Not a sell-your-soul city job

We're looking for one person who read that, thought it sounded appealing and can offer us:
  • an ability to make awesome, elegant architectural choices and then get their hands dirty to deploy them
  • an understanding of when real-life demands compromise, and that sometimes it's better to just get things done
  • reliability and accountability for their time and the work they do
  • an enthusiasm to learn everything that makes a fully featured online system come together, from sysadmin through to css transitions

Skills & Requirements
  • Must have a demonstrable history of web application programming (as opposed to website building.)
  • Should be comfortable with the general concepts of APIs (SOAP, REST), relational databases, MVC architecture and ORMs.
  • More than that, the wider range of technologies used the better. While we work with LAMP, Symfony, Doctrine, MySQL, jQuery and Mercurial none of these is required as long as the candidate has a strong ability to learn and develop their abilities.

How to Apply:
Please send a CV and something interesting to hireme@doublejames.com
