Sport & Wellbeing report
Chelmsford and Cambridge campuses have joined forces this year in a bid to climb up the BUCS league table and 32 teams represent us on a national scale. In the Midlands and South East Conferences the teams face tough competition against universities such as Loughborough and Nottingham in their quests for glory, but have so far risen to the challenge. There are over 6,000 students registered in over 110 clubs and societies across our four campuses.
Sport in Cambridge
We have had some fantastic results, with Men's Football 1st team undefeated in their opening games, which is a fantastic achievement considering their promotion last season. Men's Hockey, Women's Volleyball and Men's Rugby also remain undefeated at the same stage, with all four teams sitting top of their respective BUCS leagues. Women's Basketball has also made a very good start to their season.Nine teams have progressed into the last 32 of the BUCS Cup and BUCS Plate competitions.
The newly formed American Football team, 'The Rhinos', have received just under £10,000 from Sport England.
The Rowing Club are working hard to become nationally recognised as a strong sculling university, and have four active men's and four women's quadruple sculls. The club ambition is to qualify in men's and/or women's Henley and achieve six national regatta medals. Last year the Women's Henley crew achieved Henley qualification by reaching the final 16 but due to adverse weather conditions were unfortunate not to go further.
