Development Update
Telethon 2012
We'd like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our 2012 Telethon! This has been our second consecutive telephone campaign, raising much needed funds for Alumni Support Fund Scholarships, burns research and equipment, international community projects and a general fund for our most urgent priorities on campus. The Telethon is one of the largest initiatives for our Annual Fund and we are pleased to announce the total amount pledged is £60,112.50. This is an impressive amount achieved through your generosity and support, and 67% up on our total from 2011.
We couldn't have done this without YOU!
In addition to this impressive total, fellow alumni have offered mentoring and work placements for current students, requested information on legacy giving, and have updated contact and business details, allowing us to keep them in touch with Anglia Ruskin and fellow classmates.
Employing 40 of our current students as callers, we had conversations with 1,595 alumni like you during this three week campaign, giving us an excellent opportunity to speak to you about your time at Anglia Ruskin and what you have been doing since then. The Telethon has also been a great way for our students to build upon their communication and teamwork skills as well as gain advice from alumni, all of which will be of great benefit to them in their studies and future employment.
The money raised will make a real difference to current and future students and we look forward to updating you on the impact these donations will make in the coming year.
If you still need to fulfill your pledge, you can make your donation online by visiting www.anglia.ac.uk/donate or ringing 0845 196 4715.
Thank you again for your support!
Erin Butcher
Annual Fund Manager
Year 2 Accounting and Finance student
"I am a second year student studying Accounting and Finance and I recently took part in the fundraising campaign. I have always felt passionately about aiding others who are less fortunate than I am and when I heard about the annual fund and the causes of the campaign, I immediately wanted to help. The cause that I was most keen on was the international community projects and without the generous donations from our alumni, we would not be able to benefit the lives of people, who are less fortunate, abroad. Also, the students get to experience global issues and experience different cultures. I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign as I have developed many key skills and enriched my knowledge of the financial industry, from the prospect of our alumni, so that I am better prepared for the future. I am grateful for the invaluable advice and I can't wait to help in 2013."
Thanks to your support, Anglia Ruskin IS making a difference
Our work at Anglia Ruskin touches people's lives in so many different ways. Through our teaching, students and research, we are working on the issues that face many of us everyday. Thanks to the generous support of our alumni, every year we are able to do more, ensuring we make a lasting impact and giving students the opportunity to fulfill their potential. Here are just a few examples how?First year BA Hons Fine Art student, Eve Baldry, is now able to fund vital materials for her course thanks to an Alumni Support Scholarship worth £500. We awarded 10 Alumni Support Scholarships to incoming students this year giving talented students seeking extra financial support the chance to study at Anglia Ruskin and to achieve their best during their time here and in their life ahead.
Research into burns injuries at the St Andrews Burns Unit is helping to save lives and treat patients with severely disfiguring burn injury scars. The Scar Analysis Laboratory is a new joint venture between St Andrews Plastic Surgery Centre and Anglia Ruskin which is working to find ways to improve the appearance of burn injury scars for both adults and children.
Our work supporting others is focused on five main areas - Arts & Culture, Today's Students, Community, Environment and Health & Wellbeing. If you are interested in finding out more about our work in these areas and are interested in supporting us, please visit our website at www.anglia.ac.uk/makingadifference
