High performance sport
Whilst we encourage all of our sports clubs to challenge themselves and improve their performance each and every year, we currently have 3 sports where our university is trying to compete at the very highest level across the UK.
Judo
Our Judo Programme is a model that others around the world are looking to replicate and is endorsed by the European Judo Union. In 2011/12 our squad won the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition for the second time on their way to becoming number 1 in the UK. One of our students was selected to represent Great Britain in Judo at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Cricket
Our partnership with Cambridge University and the MCC provides students with a unique opportunity to excel in cricket whilst studying with us. The academy is based at the Fenners Cricket Ground, which is just a 5 minute walk from our Cambridge campus. We are one of only 6 MCC funded schemes in the country, providing our cricketers with a unique opportunity to develop their own skills whilst competing against county sides on a regular basis. Our Cambridge team won the 2012 BUCS cricket competition.
Rowing
As you would expect of a university with a campus in Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin is serious about rowing. In recent years we have invested heavily in the Anglia Ruskin Boat Club and we are now beginning to compete with the very best universities in the UK, making it into the top 20 rankings at last year's BUCS Championships. The Rowing Club also compete in international races and major regattas, including Henley.

Scholarships
We take great pride in the fact that some of the most talented sports men and women in the country chose to study at Anglia Ruskin University. We also understand how difficult it can be to balance the demands of competing at the highest level with a full academic life when you first arrive at university. To help with this, we offer students competing at a national or international level an opportunity to apply for a scholarship award of up to £1,000 a year for 3 years. The award will be given to you as a package of support that will add value to your existing training programmes and is tailored to your own personal circumstances and sport. In return, all we ask is that you compete for us in university competition, continue to fully commit to your studies and help us to promote sport to others across the university. In addition to our scholarship scheme, we would also be keen to hear from you if you compete in a sport for which there is currently no recognised club at our university, such as snooker, clay pigeon shooting or windsurfing. We will consider offering support to students who have a realistic chance of scoring points for us in BUCS competitions.
