Description

The Novice Introduction to Anaesthesia Programme is a structured introduction to anaesthesia for new trainees. It provides valuable preparation for clinical practice and for the initial assessment of competence.

The programme consists of three components.

  • introduction to the East of England School of Anaesthesia - for all new Health Education East of England trainees.
  • three lecture days: preoperative assessment, monitoring and equipment; drugs; airway
  • one simulation day.

The Introduction to the East of England School of Anaesthesia is free to attend for all East of England trainees.

The Novice Introduction to Anaesthesia Programme Lecture Days and Simulation Day are mandatory for all CT1 Anaesthetic trainees in Watford and Essex (Basildon, Broomfield, Colchester and Southend Hospitals). Delegate registration for Essex and Watford CT1 Anaesthetic and ACCS (Anaesth) trainees is subsidised by Health Education East of England. Other delegates, for example ACCS trainees from other parent specialities or non-Essex/Watford CT1 anaesthetists, are very welcome to attend at the full registration rate.

The programme is a collaboration between the Health Education East of England School of Anaesthesia Essex Rotation (Basildon, Broomfield, Colchester and Southend Hospitals) and the Postgraduate Medical Institute.
