Check out Anglia Ruskin’s Roadshow bus and meet Ruskin the Rhino

Calling all animal fanatics, wannabe zoo keepers and budding vets… youngsters enjoying a wild day out can quiz our experts and current students about Higher Education as Anglia Ruskin University’s Roadshow bus parks up at Colchester Zoo on Saturday.

A recent report by the Association of Colleges found that of 2,000 pupils of secondary school age surveyed, just 49% felt they were well informed about choices available to them when they leave school.

Anglia Ruskin University offers a wealth of courses that people interested in animals can get their teeth into. Visitors to the zoo can find out about subjects like Animal and Environmental Biology, Zoology or Animal Behaviour.

Young visitors will also have the chance to grab a balloon, colour in Ruskin the Rhino, mascot of Anglia Ruskin University, and play our big games. Ruskin will also be on hand to entertain youngsters throughout the day.

The double-decker bus will feature a lounge downstairs where visitors can relax and find out more about life at university.  Upstairs, a mock-up student kitchen and bedroom will give a feel for what it is like to live on-campus.

The striking exterior of the bus offers an artist’s impression of Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses and was designed by an Anglia Ruskin graduate.

As well as giving a flavour of university life, the aim is to inform visitors and families what is involved when applying for university and share the many benefits of Higher Education.

Emma Seward, Outreach & Recruitment Officer at Anglia Ruskin, said:

“The bus offers visitors a taste of what life at university is like and is a relaxed and friendly environment for people coming along to the zoo to find out more about Higher Education.”

The bus will be parked next to the reception at Colchester Zoo from 9.30am.

The Roadshow bus, organised by Anglia Ruskin’s Outreach & Recruitment team, will be heading to schools, colleges and community events across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, East London and Norfolk over the few weeks.

Families might also enjoy the opportunity to take part in our competition by snapping a selfie with the bus. Each week, a selfie posted to @AngliaRuskin #roadshowselfie or to facebook.com/angliaruskin is in with a chance of winning. For more details, visit www.anglia.ac.uk/roadshow
