Anglia Ruskin’s School of Architecture opens its doors to showcase 2016 projects

Untitled PageAnglia Ruskin University’s School of Architecture will be opening its doors to the public tomorrow night [Tuesday, 7 June] for the launch of its annual Summer Exhibition.

The exhibition, at Anglia Ruskin’s Chelmsford campus, will showcase projects from students on a range of courses within the School of Architecture, such as the BA (Hons) Architecture, BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology, MSc Urban Design, MSc Town Planning and MSc Conservation of Buildings.

And as well as being of interest to the general public, the free exhibition offers an opportunity for the students to impress industry professionals.

Alison Pooley, Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin and the exhibition curator, said:

“The Summer Exhibition is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of the students over the past year.

“The focus for first year undergraduates is drawing and sketching, and making adaptations to familiar spaces.  The second year focus is on architecture and community, with projects based in Colchester and Chelmsford.

“Final year Architecture and Architectural Technology students choose their own programme for their dissertation project, which involves exploration of a variety of architectural form.

“Work by postgraduate students will also be exhibited this year, where issues of planning, urban design and building conservation are explored through an advanced theoretical approach.  All of the work is grounded in the important role the built environment plays in our lives.”

Invited guests include organisations and individuals who have assisted with projects over the past year, as well as senior figures from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT).

The opening night will feature a number of prizes being awarded including the RIBA East Student Award, the CIAT Eastern Region Student Award, the RIBA Chelmsford Chapter Travel Bursary and the School of Architecture Progression Awards.

The exhibition is on show from 7-23 June, and is located on the ground floor of the Marconi Building on Anglia Ruskin’s Chelmsford Campus.  The opening night runs from 6-8pm, with the exhibition open daily from 9am to 6pm, ending at 4pm on 23 June.  The exhibition is organised in association with Archifunk, Anglia Ruskin’s Architecture Student Society.
