Mumford Theatre concert will raise money for Spinal Injuries Association
A trio of talented soloists from Prime Brass – the region’s foremost brass ensemble – will be performing a lunchtime concert at Anglia Ruskin University on Friday, October 28 (1.10pm).
The free concert, at the Mumford Theatre on the university’s Cambridge campus, will feature Michel Sedgwick on trumpet as well as former Anglia Ruskin students Sarah Minchin (trombone) and Guy Llewellyn (French horn). Maurice Hodges, a lecturer in Anglia Ruskin’s Music and Performing Arts department, will be accompanying on piano.
The group will be performing the trio by Francis Poulenc, as well as a selection of solo pieces, and there will be a collection in aid of the Spinal Injuries Association afterwards.
Guy Llewellyn, who studied at Cambridge College of Arts and Technology (CCAT) which is now part of Anglia Ruskin, was left paralysed from the waist down following a serious accident in June last year.
Despite the accident, Guy has continued to perform concerts and was the co-organiser of the ‘Grade-one-a-Thon’ fundraising event in January which raised over £80,000 for the Spinal Injuries Association.
Guy has performed with numerous musical orchestras and groups, including the Cambridge University Musical Society, Cambridge Philharmonic Society, Cambridge Orchestra, K239 Chamber Orchestra and the Sinfonia of Cambridge, as well as performances with Anglia Ruskin students.
Guy is also in demand as a soloist and recent performances include Mozart’s Horn Concerto No 4, Haydn’s Double Horn Concerto, Concerto for Horn and Wind band by Marco Putz, the Britten Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings and Strauss Horn Concerto No 1.
His chamber work includes solo horn performances and recordings with Prime Brass, which he co-founded in 1990, and The Tony Halstead Horn Ensemble.
