Essex and Cambridgeshire businessmen join Board of Governors.
Entrepreneur, economist, author, broadcaster and leading expert in emerging markets, Dr Jerome Booth, has been appointed the new Chair of Governors at Anglia Ruskin University.
A resident of north Essex and keen amateur musician, Dr Booth is a council member of the Royal Philharmonic Society, director of the Britten Sinfonia, chair of the Fitzwilliam Museum Development Trust, and a Vice President of the Essex Community Foundation.
A prominent investor, Dr Booth established New Sparta Limited in 2013, through which he manages his more active interests in a number of companies in insurance, telecoms, film, journalism and publishing. These include New Call Telecom, Walpole Holdings, New Sparta Films and Icon Film Distribution UK.
Dr Booth replaces outgoing Chair of the Board of Governors, Lord Tomlinson of Walsall, and said:
Anglia Ruskin’s new Deputy Chairman is Nigel Brown OBE. Dr Brown has played a key role in business in Cambridge. He chaired the Greater Cambridge Partnership, co-founded the Cambridge Network and raised two venture capital funds aimed at high-tech Cambridge-based businesses.
In 2007 Dr Brown won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion in recognition of his key role in the growth of the Cambridge Phenomenon. He is the Chair of the Saffron Hall Trust, former Chairman of the Cambridge Arts Theatre, a patron of the Cambridge Music Festival and founded The Stradivari Trust. He has also served as Chairman of MAGPAS, the emergency medical charity. In 2010, Dr Brown was appointed High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire.
