Paramedic Pre–Degree Experience Intermediate Ambulance Practitioners

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a national pilot scheme led by Health Education England for up to 30 aspiring paramedic students to get real, paid caring experience for 9 months as an Intermediate Ambulance Practitioners, before applying in January 2017 to enter undergraduate paramedic education in September 2017. As part of this pilot, Health Education England (East of England Local Office) will be recruiting 30 IAPS across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridge and Essex. The post will be a fixed term 9–10 month contract in a variety of settings across the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, commencing November 2016.

Participants in the pilot will have the opportunity to:

  • Be a pioneer in a new learning opportunity for people who want to go to university to train as a paramedic
  • Get paid to gain vital experience of caring for patients on the front line of the NHS
  • Find out whether a caring career really is right for you
What do we want from you?
  • You must be an aspiring paramedic
  • You must meet or be able to meet the University Academic Criteria for the Paramedic Science BSc programme
  • You must have held a valid UK driving for 1 year and hold or be willing to obtain a C1 licence
  • You should have no more than 12 months experience of a caring role either in the NHS or Private and Voluntary Sector
  • You will agree to be part of the pilot evaluation so we can understand the impact of the experience on you
  • You will be expected to travel to gain valid experience
  • If successful at interview, you must be available to commence in the IAP role in November 2016 and must pass NHS pre-employment checks, eDBS, Occupational Health and fitness.

Closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 7th August 2016. Interviews will be held on in the week commencing Monday August 22nd 2016.
