Francesca Panin is an experienced researcher in neuroscience and cardiology. She is a pharmacist with a PhD in neuroscience. Her areas of expertise include: pharmacology, neuroscience, cardiology and regulatory/ethics skills for pre-clinical and clinical research. She trains students on research methods and Undergraduates Major Project.

Francesca Panin is a Pharmacist registered with the local GPhC. She has worked for 10 years in medical research. She obtained a PhD in neuroscience in Italy, and pursued her research career by working as post-doctoral researcher at the centre for health and medical research INSERM in Bordeaux (France). She subsequently obtained a certificate to work as a Clinical Research Associate in Bordeaux, where she managed clinical trials on electric and pharmacologic therapies for cardiac failures in the hospital. She recently managed a clinical study on metabolic and sleep disturbances in Huntington’s Disease, at the Cambridge University Hospital. She is currently setting up research activity on Electro-EncephaloGrams (EEGs).

  • The neural mechanisms underlying the switch from depression to mania in bipolar patients
  • The neural mechanisms underlying the development of drug addiction
  • The development of new therapies to treat cardiac failures: pharmacology and medical devices
  • The use of polysomnography to diagnose and treat sleep disturbances
  • The use of EEG to study the neural mechanisms regulating the gait activity

  • Supervision of Pharmacy postgraduate students (neural mechanisms of depression)
  • Second supervisor for 1 PhD student on the neural mechanisms of drug addiction
