This research project is a development of Simon Down’s 2012 work, which argued that in order to ascertain the impact and significance of changing ethnographic practices, it is critical to study past ethnographic studies in their historical contexts. Thus, the aim of my research is to contextualize past WOE studies and understand the intellectual trends in the representation of work and research practices in WOE studies. This will be achieved by employing a mixed methods design to study the nine WOE studies conducted in the UK from the period 1965 to 2000. The nine WOE studies serve as vantage points to trace and understand the intellectual history of ethnography.
