Dr Helen Benton is an active researcher in the field of supply chain management. She also has a passion for learning and teaching and leads the Centre for Innovation in Business Education for the Business School.
Helen has been involved in a number of research and consultancy projects which are focused on supply chain management. She has developed frameworks for selecting e-business and software for improved supply chain flow. She's currently working on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership funded by Innovate UK with Hexcel which focuses on developing their supply chain. She recently completed a Low-Carbon KEEP which is a knowledge transfer project to implement software for improved customer and information flow for small and medium sized enterprise.
Helen is the Director of the Centre for Innovation in Business Education (CIBE) which focuses on developing research, innovation, ideas and tools and techniques in business and management education. The centre acts as a hub within the Lord Ashcroft International Business School for business education research and professional practice.
Helen’s research interests focus on managing and improving supply chains from an efficiency and effectiveness point of view. She has conducted projects that explore how information technology can be used to improve supply chain co-ordination. She is currently working with Hexcel to improve their supply chain processes. She has more recently been involved in knowledge transfer work to reduce carbon, working with an SME in the area. She has a particular interest in sustainable operations and supply chains. Alongside this interest in supply chains, Helen has also been involved in pedagogical research, having been awarded funds to implement technology in the classroom and to improve the experience of large classes.
Helen has taught undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals in the areas of: supply chain management, project management and operations management. She has lead BSc and Masters courses and large international modules. She is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She directs the Faculty’s Centre for Innovation in Business Education.
