Having worked as a midwife for a number of years Janet's interests lie strongly within that area and with developing the future midwifery and obstetric workforce.

Background

Janet's working life started as a management trainee and then a section Manager with the John Lewis Partnership. From there I went into nurse training and after qualification worked as a Staff Nurse for a year before going on to complete an eighteen month training course for midwifery registration. As a qualified Midwife she have worked in all areas of Maternity and worked on the community in Central London for eight years before returning to the hospital setting and eventually moving into education.

Research interests

The effect of environment on pregnancy, childbirth and health. Having worked in a number of different settings in the community and hospitals, and differently designed maternity departments she is interested in how the work environment impacts on care and work practices.

Teaching

Janet teaches on most of the modules within the Midwifery degree programme as well as contributing to other courses within Anglia Ruskin. In addition she teaches at UCL on the MBBS programme and the M.Sc in Reproductive Science and Women’s Health.
