Before retiring in 2013 from full-time teaching Julia has had extensive practical and teaching experience spanning a 35 year period in nursing and early years education/childcare related provision.

Joining Anglia Ruskin University in 2004 Julia had been responsible as Course Leader, for the Foundation degree in Early Years, Playwork and Education (face-to-face, blended and online/ distance learning mode), which is delivered at Chelmsford and through Regional Partner Institutions. Julia was also awarded the University Fellowship Award for the quality of her teaching.

Research interests

  • Member of the interdisciplinary special interest research group; RiCH - Research in Child Health and The Early Childhood Research group.
  • Member of the Early Childhood Studies Research group
  • Member of a collaborative working research partnership with the Essex Early Years Consortium
  • Ongoing Ph.D study (data collection through visualisations, massage and aromatherapy techniques) on the following issue: The effects of incorporating and applying complementary therapies into the intervention strategies employed by a Nurture Group within a Primary School setting.
