Background

Andrew's professional background is linked with children and families within a social work context. This included working in child protection/safeguarding teams as a social worker. He has also trained as a Family Therapist and has used the skills and knowledge in his practice and in his lecturing. Andrew worked as a social worker trainer for many years, working right across the spectrum of social work, combining this role with being a principal lecturer in social work. He has acted as a consultant for the above areas of special interest and expertise and continues to do so. His interest also extends to training in the areas of race, diversity and discrimination.

Teaching

Andrew's teaching interest revolves around the above subject areas of expertise and professional interest but he is proficient and very interested in the methods/models and theories social workers use to intervene in the lives of service users. His interest extends to the sociological and psychological concepts that social workers use to help make sense of the world in which we practice and live.
