Please make your way to the Lord Ashcroft Building on arrival. This is where you need to check-in and collect your seating card. There’s an opportunity for you and your guests to get refreshments from our Costa coffee bar and refectory. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase memorabilia to mark your special day, from rings and jewellery to teddy bears, hoodies and the yearbook. For information please visit memorabilia.
You and your guests will be shown to the Mildmay sports hall by our ushers, where you can collect your pre-ordered gown and have professional photographs taken with your guests.
You’ll then be shown to the Graduation Pavilion to take your seats in preparation for the start of the ceremony (see timings above).
Guests and students are seated separately, and on arrival at the Pavilion you’ll be directed to different entrance doors. It’s important you keep hold of your seating card, and that your guests have their tickets.
Once you enter the student entrance, you’ll be shown to your seat by an usher. The seat is allocated to you and is indicated on your seating card. You’ll be seated in the order you’ll be called across the stage, so it's important you sit in your allocated seat. As an Anglia Ruskin University graduand you’ll wear academic dress and your mortar board
You’ll be advised by an usher when your row needs to rise and approach the presentation platform.
Once your name is announced you’ll be directed to walk onto and across the stage to the centre point, where the Vice Chancellor (or representative) will greet you and shake your hand. You’ll then continue across the stage, and return back to your seat.
The order of proceedings is as follows.
Following the close of proceedings, all graduates are asked to process out, led by the platform party. Once all graduates have left the pavilion, we invite guests to join graduates outside. You’ll then be shown to the Faculty post-ceremony reception which is based in the reception marquee near the Tindal and William Harvey buildings.
On arrival you and your guests can collect your glass of bubbly and chocolates (soft drinks also available), view the DVD recording of your ceremony and celebrate with family, friends and staff members.
Once you’ve finished your celebration on campus, please drop your hired gown at PMI building before continuing your celebration.
Each faculty has a variety of prizes which are given to celebrate academic success among other things. If you’re a prize winner, this will be announced during the ceremony and your prize will be presented to you by your Faculty, after the ceremony.
If you’re unable to attend a ceremony please contact your Faculty Office to make arrangements to collect your prize.
You are warmly invited to attend a special thanksgiving service on the day of your graduation in Chelmsford Cathedral at the heart of the City. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with family and friends. The service will begin at 1.30 pm and last about 35 minutes, designed around the timings of your graduation ceremony.
It’s important to know how you and your guests are going to make your way to and from the campus.
Please view our Travelling to the Chelmsford campus page to plan your route. Unfortunately, parking is not available on campus. However, the Chelmer Valley Park & Ride bus comes through the centre of campus. Parking is available for Blue Badge holders: please contact us before the day to make arrangements.
