A Number of continuing threads maybe discerned in his career. One is the experience of mergers and acquisition, especially in the international setting. A second is a fundamental faith in honesty and transparency in business dealings. A third is the belief in a stake holder based approach to career in business, encompassing the interests of shareholders, employees, customers, creditors and debtor. A final element is the belief that the role of corporate directors is to deal with those things which are a distraction to the operating directors.

He has also been active in the charity sector. He is a trustee of the Crimestoppers Trust, and his rugby interests led him to be a trustee of the Wooden Spoon Society, a sporting charity. His tenure of his position has witnessed an increase of £170k to over £1million in Grants for facilities for young people.
