Hello and welcome to my Anglia Ruskin blog space. It’s the first semester of the year and new ideas and beginnings are on the horizon. My first blog will be focusing on my experiences of the start of the academic year.

Firstly, a brief introduction. I am Tamsin and I study Accounting and Finance (Year 1) in Chelmsford and live off-campus. My experiences were different to normal freshers. I had to go through clearing and change my first choice of university as I didn’t feel it was right for me. On the plus side, I then chose Anglia Ruskin as my clearing choice.

The university has provided me with great opportunities to meet new people, including people who come from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds to me. It’s great to interact with such a range of people.

Engaging with people is likely to make it easier in the future, for international communication. For the accounting sector, global work is at the top of the to-do list to become successful. For anyone interested in meeting a wide range of people university offers you that chance on a plate. I have met the most wonderful and helpful people who have been really outgoing. They might become friends for life.

I should also mention the nightlife is great. Chelmsford has a number of clubs and bars that are easily accessible from the university. Even though I live 20 minutes away from Chelmsford, the nightlife is a must! If a crazy night out is on the agenda ,Chicago’s and CTZN are the places to go. On certain days of the week there are theme nights that really get everyone buzzing. The clubs can be a place for us students to meet up and have a good time. We all want the odd break from research and assignments due in.

The help on offer from all of the staff at Anglia Ruskin is immense. Everyone should take full advantage of services such as the Employment Bureau and Employability Programme. To wrap this up, Anglia Ruskin has saved me from negativity I might have felt about being a student during clearing. Uni life is in full flow and I’d recommend the journey to anyone.
