Petru Enache

My name is Petru Enache and I am entering my third year of the Crime and Investigative Studies course. Through the University's volunteer service, I've become a driver for CamSight.

CamSight is a Cambridge-based charity that works alongside blind or partially sighted people. They organise supportive group meet-ups and country-wide awareness of these opportunities. The charity offers support for carers and families, employers and public service providers. CamSight works in partnership with Addenbrooke's to support visually impaired children and adults to maintain independence and quality of life.

My main duties as a volunteer driver are to pick up and drop off individuals with impaired vision. The CamSight group meets on a monthly or sometimes weekly basis, often within Cambridge but sometimes visiting smaller villages around the Cambridge area. I have a chance to stay with the group if we have driven outside of Cambridge, often to small villages. Many of these individuals have a funny sense of humour and are all friendly.

I have learnt skills to add to my CV including research, organisation, team work and self-management. I hope to potentially gain a job role in the police authorities or as a detective. Growing skills through volunteering will help me to see where the job pathway will lead.

The Students' Union volunteer service has helped find all six volunteer roles that I am currently experiencing. I also work volunteer hours for the British Heart Foundation, where all the staff are friendly and accepting.
