Course: BA (Hons) Education and Childhood Studies

I’m Onella, but everyone knows me as Nelly. I come from Colchester and I am currently studying Education and Childhood Studies in Chelmsford. I have just completed my first year and I am aiming to become a teacher, either in primary school or an English teacher abroad.

I am part of SASG which is the Society of Anime, Socialising and Gaming. People can often find me there on a Thursday evening playing games or socialising. I am completely obsessed with Japan and would love to go there and teach English; it is also my dream holiday destination because I have always been fascinated with their culture and I enjoy trying new and unusual food.

I often volunteer in primary schools in Essex to gain more experience for my course but to also help children with their school work. I tend to use that experience to help the younger members of my family with their school work, so I’m a bit of a tutor. I have also volunteered at a primary school in Trinidad and Tobago where I got to teach maths and observe their classes, which are very different from the schools at home.

I’ve always wanted to blog and hopefully people will enjoy reading about my experiences during my time and university and also my time abroad, I’m happy for people to email me or to find me around the campus to discuss anything that I have posted or to give me feedback and suggestions for future posts.
