Alumni Fund provides support for portable musical

Under the direction of Dr Eirini Kartsaki, Senior Lecturer in Drama, and with the support of the Alumni General Fund, students from our Drama and Performing Arts courses presented a thirty-minute portable musical in Chelmsford, Cambridge and Peterborough.

The musical was devised in eighteen hours (a challenge placed at the beginning of the rehearsal process) and enabled students to engage with experimental theatre and devised work. Students showed enthusiasm and commitment and contributed to the process creatively throughout.

The idea behind the minimalist musical was the replacement of all lyrics of popular songs with the phrase "It's so serious". As such, the musical only really had one line of lyrics, which the audience was invited to learn and sing along by the end of it.

Dr Kartsaki said: "We would like to thank from our hearts Margi Humphries and Tory Williams for costumes (and Milky White for featuring in the production), Connie Rega for the set, Antonis Papavasiliou and Carla Hendricks for photography and Buddy Foster for filming. Finally, many thanks to Will Baker and Lee Griffin for making this possible. And a huge thank you for the Alumni General Fund and to the department of Music and Performing Arts for their support. We will be back with more."
