Fantasy and Identity: The Self and the Other in The Kingkiller Chronicle

6 April 2017, 09:00 - 11:00
Cambridge campus

Guest speaker: Jaime Oliveiros, PhD student (on Erasmus exchange)

In this session, Jaime Oliveiros examines the notion of collective identities and, more specifically, ongoing national identity building through the analysis of Patrick Rothfuss’ fantasy work The Kingkiller Chronicle. In particular, he explores the semiotic connections that are made to portray the Self as a tightened community in opposition to other communities.
