LENS Reportage and Documentary Research Group present a lecture by Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Professor Alan Rosenthal.

Professor Rosenthal's lecture will focus on:

  • writing documentary
  • documentary problems
  • the hybrid documentary

Alan Rosenthal is a world expert on documentary films, specializing in producing and directing documentary and docudrama, and international film co-operation. He has written 11 books on documentary filmmaking and has over 50 films to his name as Writer, Director, and Producer.

His films include: The First Fagin, Waves of Freedom, Stalin's Last Purge, Mysteries of Jerusalem, and Heritage: Civilization and the Jews.

His books include: Writing, Producing and Directing Documentary Film and Video, Writing Docudrama: Dramatizing Reality for Film and TV, The Documentary Diaries and Why Docudrama? Fact-Fiction for Film and TV.

His awards include: Emmy, Peabody Journalism, Cine Eagle, Outstanding Achievement Award - International Documentary Association.

Alan Rosenthal is Visiting Professor at Stanford University, and the British, Australian, Mexican, Swedish, and Hong Kong National Film Institutes.
