Professor Lesley Dobree

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic)

Professor Dobree has extensive knowledge, expertise and experience of working in higher education over a period of 20 years. During that time she has held a range of senior posts including that of Dean of Faculty and has been Deputy Vice Chancellor at Anglia Ruskin for 10 years.


Lesley's successful academic career was built on her early professional experience of working as a nurse and midwife and later in a range of senior management roles in London teaching hospital NHS Trusts. She holds a number of director and governor roles, mainly in public sector organisations.

In her role of Deputy Vice Chancellor, Lesley oversees all of Anglia Ruskin's academic activities whether located on or off campus in the UK or overseas. She works closely with the Vice Chancellor and senior staff in the delivery of Anglia Ruskin's corporate objectives and has lead responsibility for a number of the key strategic areas, which include Learning Development Services, the Academic Office and the University Library. Lesley led the team which submitted the successful original bid to HEFCE for funding to establish the Degrees at Work project. She is committed to establishing closer links between Anglia Ruskin and employers and to the further development of both under and post-graduate work-based courses, provided flexibly to allow students and employers to achieve maximum benefit.

Amongst other things Lesley contributes to the Entrepreneurial University Leadership Programme at the Said Business School in Oxford and wrote the bid that led to Anglia Ruskin University winning the Times Higher Education Entrepreneurial University of The Year Award.
