We're an ambitious, innovative university. We want all our students to have the best possible academic facilities, experience and to graduate with a good degree. So we're making some improvements to our Cambridge campus which students will benefit from.

New facilities

We're building a brand new science centre which will be a major facility for computing and technology, psychology, biomedical science and forensic science. The science centre will support changing teaching styles and include a 200-seat bioscience laboratory, a 300-seat lecture theatre and even more space for our postgraduate students. The building will be ready in the 2017/18 academic year.

Our gaming, music technology and sports and exercise science students will have a new home in Compass House, which will extend our campus along East Road. We’re investing more than £3.5million in new facilities, including recording studio suites, Development Labs for computer sciences, Digital Systems Design Labs, Video Labs, AV Labs, two lecture theatres - one of which will be a Critical Listening Theatre. Our gaming and music technology students will have the latest equipment, and be able to collaborate with other students on innovative projects to hone their skills.

Environmental considerations

We're very concerned about the environment, and have considered transport, ecology and pollution as part of the planning process.

Through our new Energy Centre we'll make a total carbon saving of over 30% by using gas more efficiently and generating our own electricity.

Considerate Contractor Scheme

We made sure that our contractors are part of the Considerate Contractor Scheme. The Considerate Contractor Scheme is designed to ensure that construction and routine maintenance activities in Cambridge progress without making life unpleasant for people who live and work nearby. Scheme members are asked to give a commitment which is over and above the legal minimum requirements and is described in the scheme's code of good practice.

Our contractors are going to work from 8am to 6pm Monday – Friday, and 8am – 1pm on Saturday. At no time will they work on Sunday, Bank or Public Holidays.
